The wrong guy in the seat is #1, a full set of 46k+ Full locking rears might get pretty close to An engine though, trans and frame rails are probably rounding out the list.

The most important and expensive part of a Class 8 truck is the DRIVER and it is the single most important part an owner needs to take care of and don’t you ever forget it!

    Absolutely!
The seal between the steering wheel and the seat is the most expensive part! :)

If we're simply talking hard parts then I'd say the engine. However, the downtime costs more than any repair. Every single day that truck is in the shop instead of generating revenue you're bleeding revenue like a sieve.

All the shops have long lead times right now which adds even more time before you're back up and running again. Let's say your transmission loses a countershaft. So that's roughly 7k then it's takes them over a week just to start on it. That's at least 10k lost from being down. Add that to the 7k job and you're pushing 17k just for what would normally be a fairly simple 2 day job max.

Then there's the parts supply issues that can also add to your down time. We're on the verge of really bad things right now.

    AH180 and BennysPennys Thank this.

I agree on the down time.

It's quite the negative mathematical formula.

You have the cost of the repair itself plus you have the amount of money that you're losing not working plus you have all of the bills and monthly expenses accruing as you are not working.

It's like a negative mathematical formula in marriage. First you get married there's the first big expense. Then you married a bad one. Now your expenses go way up. Now you have one not only is she bad but she's mad. That one can just about run you right into the ground. Then it is all working against you.

I think I'll take the truck problems over all that nonsense.
