I'm not sure what the company policy is... but when I was down for six days in Nashville I got 100/day add pay plus my hotels reimbursed no questions asked.
I don't expect to make the same revenue sitting as I do moving so to me that was more than fair.
What is the standard for Break Down Pay?

This is one of those questions that is going to trigger an ego-injury to most driver managers and owners. Generally because they will only look at the part that benefits them short term. To put it into context I own a fleet of 7-trucks. When I hired my drivers, I hired them to work. It is literally just that simple. If a truck breakdown and they are over-the-road, I either will fly them home and pay them a daily rate OR put them in a hotel and pay them a daily rate. WHY? Because even if the truck is broken down or in the shop they are still on-call to pick the truck up when it is fix, and that can happen at anytime. Secondly, they were not hired to sit at home not collecting a check. Trucks can break down several times a year and depending on the age of your fleet it can happen more often than not. Additionally you are forcing the driver to consistently take unpaid time off, which is absurd. Now you will have a lot of carriers to disagree to this fact, and it is because of selfishness and greed, and I guarantee you they are also carriers who will get upset when their drivers don't go the extra mile for them and or do favors. Additionally, how can you ever keep your driver retention in-line and expect your drivers to respect you when you are only willing to do the bare minimum or less for them. It shouldn't take the government to write a law for you to do the right thing. I personally consider this payroll fraud. It is literally common sense.

I'm a regional driver, paid hourly. When I break down I get my hourly pay until the truck is repaired and I am back into he road, or 8 hours if I am sitting in a hotel waiting for the repair. Over night I also get $50/night LOA ( live out allowance) but I drive a daycab, if I had a sleeper I probably would not get loa.
