I am not sure what you are saying, with an exempt truck, unless your company requires you to use it, there is no need to, infact it doesn't even need to be in there, period.

The truck doesn't even have to be exempt, if you are running local and don't need to even run paper logs.

You’re not far off. It’s not in my truck, but the story goes like this.

Cop: give me your documents and show me your blank paper logs
Driver: sure but don’t you want my logs?
    Cop: no
Driver: Are you sure. I can print them
Cop: I know. I hate those things

The VDO RoadLog electronic logging device was developed by Continental, a provider of regulatory compliance systems with over six million electronic logging devices in use worldwide. Continental developed the VDO RoadLog specifically for the North American commercial vehicle market to provide an affordable and easy-to-use ELD solution for fleets and owner-operators.

Features include plug-and-play installation, built-in printer for rapid roadside checks, compatibility with VDO fleet management software for complete FMCSA compliance and ability to update the unit to meet future regulations. No monthly fees are required.

Fleets that reviewed VDP RoadLog gave it high marks for service and support and cost of system administration. Return on investment and driver experience also received strong ratings.
