XYZ Trucking has a contract to move all freight for ABC Mfg at $2.50/mile.
XYZ has 1,000 trucks.
ABC Manufacturing has 2000 loads to move.
XYZ says holy crap, we are over capacity people. Call the brokerages that we deal with an get them to move 1,000 loads or we will no longer be sole source on the ABC account.
Brokers move 1,000 loads and the outside carriers can get a good rate.
Fast forward one year.
XYZ still has 1,000 trucks but ABC only has 1,000 loads.
Brokerages call XYZ, "Can we have some of your excess freight again?" XYZ says "We don't have any excess freight, but we will pay you $1.50/mile if you can move them for that but not a penny more".
Brokerages post loads for $1.00/mile and are not flexible on the rate because the loads don't have to move. -

Bayou: I do not believe you are talking about the same Hot Shot freight. I am talking about trailers that are limited on weight and can only haul something small that is moving as a full because it needs to be there in 3 or 4 days. If that is what you are talking about getting $3 to $4 on then surely by now everyone would have sold the big rigs and switched to lil trailers. haha I am pretty sure we are talking about something different. I assume you mean some kind of contracted expedited service?

I used to be 2.
I quit with the games from that fellow that moves beds, tables and chairs. -
There really isn't that much hotshot freight anymore . Most of it is oilfield . There are some calls from aircraft companies but you are close asking if it is expedite . You are expected to move as soon as you get the call .SHC Thanks this. -
Well, I guess it's a good thing I didn't buy that new flatbed trailer and start flatbedding..
SHC Thanks this. -
