What is Wrong with a ProStar with an ISX15?

    I'm looking at getting a truck, and I see a lot of 2014-2016 International ProStars with ISX15 engines and 450K- 650K miles for $15-$25K. Why are they so cheap? I drove a 2014 ProStar (back during the MaxxFarce days) and aside from the engine being garbage, I loved the truck. Is the reputation from the Maxxforce fiasco depressing the value, or are there more problems that I haven't heard of?

    those trucks had electrical issues independent of the maxxforce garbage. Wipers engaging PTO, blown fuses, bad grounds, just bad wiring everywhere.

    Mine has been a good truck so far. I've put a little over 100k on it and an air compressor is the only problem I have had. May have to recharge the a/c when it gets warm enough to need it.

    We had one that International sold to us for 1$ brand new , they wanted it on a big marquee tour we did for the big 3.
    Lets just say the electronics in that Cummapart was faulty we had it in the shop most of the tour , i actually liked the truck it rode and handled well , fit and finish was also nice.

    Yeah. Cummins had wiring harness issues on our 2012 ISX. They had fuel pump issues, they had injector tubes cracking in the head issues . I know a bunch that blew between 300k and 400k miles for different reasons. Last I checked an ISX turbo goes for $6500 to $7000. They are a dirty engine and you need to be religious with changing the oil , the oil soots up and starves the top end for oil causing early camshaft wear and engine wear overall. Mechanics love them, they’re easy to work on and you’ll be visiting them often.

    What’s so crazy is some people love them and some hate them. It all depends what you get. I have a friend in Idaho who absolutely loves them, WITH THE MAXXFORCE ENGINE EVEN. As soon as he has trouble, he has the emissions system removed and he says they are bulletproof after that. He just bought a Lonestar now. Nice looking truck.

    Personally, I wouldn’t touch a Maxxforce with a 10 foot pole. I used to would have possibly bought one with a Cummins, but this thread makes me think even they must be junk. I admit some Lonestars and even Prostars look nice.

    Water intrusion. The seal between the cap and the cab above the windshield.
    I had that problem when I drove a Prostar for an OTR company.
    Ryder had to take several trucks off the used for sale lot because that water intrusion turned into mold on some of their Prostars. May not have been all that common, but who knows.
