I make more than double your yearly salary figures a year as a company driver, local, home every night, and I've got paid for health insurance. My question to you is this, why put yourself through the hassle and stress of owning your own truck to only make 30 grand a year?

Have you ever heard the phrase "If you find a job that you love, you will never work a day in your life."?

I personally could never be a company driver. I actually enjoy most aspects of my job, which you call the hassle and stress. I take pride in providing decent jobs to drivers. I take pride, and reap the rewards, for having a top notch reputation amongst my customers.

It is not all about the dollar. Some people have priorities that rank above money, so long as they make enough money to provide for themselves and their families.

With all of that said, I don't think that I have ever made as low as 30k since I've owned trucks, and I make a very healthy income now. Fact is I have worked very hard to get where I am, still today do things that most others can't or won't, and I have had a few good breaks along the way where I was in the right place at the right time.

had a run in with the law 9 years ago, nothing serious, but for what ever the reason the bigger trucking company's insurance carriers want drivers who sang in the choir..

"nothing serious" is a relative, and very subjective statement.

You may want to talk to an insurance carrier to make sure you are insurable, before taking any of the big, costly steps in the process.

With a reasonable truck and trailer payment, and running your own authority, your breakeven should be around 1.35-1.50. Have you checked into financing yet. Your easily looking at 18-28% interest with little to no experience. As a rookie with no trucking experience, you will be paying 10-12k per year for insurance. You could easily get into the 1.60 range, and that's not talking about quick pay or factoring.

Hey, I would LOVE the freedom of owning my own truck, in the same breath I would NEVER do it for 30 grand a year. I just don't want you to take me the wrong way, I've grown up with my family owning their own trucks and have always aspired to own my own. I have very much respect to you successful owner operators out there not hauling cheap ### freight and making yourself a good living.
