    actually there are a few preamps out there that do a good job . i agree most are junk though . my ab-a & filtered 225 has a preamp on it and its..... ok . however , the preamp on my texas star 500v definately does a much better job of amplifying the audio of the signal without as much of the static and noise .

    i prefer regular radios over high powered one myself . a properly tuned uniden 68/78 with a 2x2879 amp with a propper antenna and feedline make a very cost effective setup for CB radio .

    i run a EC 2018 xtreme mic into a uniden 78ltw into a texas star 500v into a roof mounted 10k using belden 9913F7 coax on a montero suv .
