It's pretty awesome. I've also been looking into Jellyfin, just because Plex has a couple issues I don't love...but I definitely still use Plex. :D

Open it up to outside connections and you'll always have your media wherever you go. That's come in handy a few times.

I tried Kodi first but the only way I could get it to work was if I had my firewall turned off. So if you try Jellyfin keep that in mind. You might have to configure ports if it acts like Kodi.

I actually have a real distaste for Kodi. That program gave me nothing but problems when I tried to use it maybe 8 years ago.

Jellyfin is a media server, very similar to Plex. One of the major differences, though, is that Jellyfin handles everything locally rather than reaching out to an external server before it shows the media.

So let's see. I abandoned podman because...like everything from Red Hat, I found it unnecessarily complicated in the name of security. Docker...just works, and easily. I restart my server, and Docker just restarts all my containers. Easy.

I learned Docker Compose since I last posted here. One file can start and stop all my services. So far I have containers for Plex, Home Assistant, Jellyfin, three video games, Tautulli (a Plex stat keeper), Watchtower, and Heimdall.

I was having some serious problems with this new server, only to realize that my RAM settings were wrong. It was hardware all along. That got rather frustrating, to put it lightly. But now we're absolutely stable.

Did I ever mention that I changed distros last year? Arch shipped a bad version of GRUB, and I got ticked off. Moved both my server and my main to Fedora. Aaaaand I hated Fedora. Passionately.

Now I'm back on Arch on my main (I forgive you bb) and Debian on my servers and laptops. I've done some dumb stuff with my server over the last three years...you're *supposed* to be bored with Debian. Stop being so ADHD and let it quietly do what it's supposed to do.

So yeah. Debian runs everything that is critical, and Arch is my race car. I had this stuff figured out much earlier in my Linux career, and yet...you tell yourself you got it and go off and do dumb things for a while sometimes. I guess this is wisdom now, rather than knowledge. Lol

Everything is working well and I'm happy with it. Working on my certificates to become a Linux admin still. I was offered a position just based on my existing knowledge, but...if I'm gonna do it, I want to put my absolute best foot forward from the beginning.
