That's f-all. My old man did that for years with his own trucks up in the BC mountains. Used to spend every summer in the passenger seat of the truck when I was growing up. Its not a job for a SWH. Winters you will chain up several times a day and you need to know how to fix stuff on your own. You have a mechanical issue like a torn airline or something you'd better have the know-how to get the thing to a wide spot in the road because the other 15 trucks trying to get up and down that bush road don't have time to wait for a mechanic to come and save your butt.

    LWT104, REO6205 and Lepton1 Thank this.

This is a promo video for Peerless trailers but its got some pretty sweet drone footage. We used to use tri-drives and tridem pole trailers but with the shift to short logs (cut to length) these quad wagons are one of the most common setups in BC these days. Out in Alberta they run ALPAC B-trains (tridrive truck and 2 tridem trailers. 10 axles total).

    not4hire and Lepton1 Thank this.

In Eastern Wa you can still get a few of the 2 or 3 tree loads but most of those come off of the Reservation

    Lepton1 Thanks this.

That looks fun. I could see myself hauling logs if I wanted a change from flat deck.

Very true. When there are a bunch of trucks, all trying to make three loads a day, you definitely don't want to hold up the parade. Minutes count. You can always get an empty truck or a Cat to tow you to the nearest wide spot but after that you're usually on your own for the repairs.
We always carried a box of spares... air line splices, brass plugs of various sizes, a few hose clamps, a roll of duct tape, some bailing wire (really!) a ujoint and a good tool box.

    Lepton1 Thanks this.
