What load boards post rates?

Coyote in house board has rates on 99% of the loads. All are way below market. Posted rates are a kind psychological manipulation to anchor the price and influencing your counter bid closer to where THEY want the rate to be. You automatically say to yourself, well there's no way $500 or a $1,000 or however much over would ever fly so you bid much lower. And then there's the people who will offer to run it for cheaper than posted rate.

Agreed, but it's nice to know if you're in the same ballpark before wasting your time calling. After a while though I guess you learn which lanes and commodities are worth hauling.

Lumber and steel coils as a flatbedder were very rarely worth hauling.

Yeah of the ones I always look at I know which ones they'll come up on a lot if need be and which ones are always cheap. I never let their posted rate discourage me by thinking "well we're not even in the same ballpark". I'll bid a $1,000 or more than their posted rate a lot.
