I guess this would depend on just how fresh those chickens are!
Eowyn, WesternPlains, okiedokie and 3 others Thank this. -
It’s the same as pork lol
Actually, I don’t have enough info to answer your question. Are you pulling a reefer? Or live animals?
If a reefer, the difference between fresh and frozen are your reefer settings.
Live animal? One can be hauled on a flatbed. The other? Not so much.77fib77, Feedman and WesternPlains Thank this. -
well...haul live chickens, and get into a rollover, and you're chasing your chickens
haul frozen chickens, and have a rollover, you're bowling for dollars....Feedman, WesternPlains and bryan21384 Thank this. -
I prefer the frozen stuff. But that's just me. It seems to be easier to book appointment times and you waste less time loading it. The fresh stuff you often have to wait for them to process it all day then they load you at 8 pm and say go. I haven't figured out why they can't just put it in a cooler and load it first thing next morning. Fresh pays a small amount more, generally. They both require wash out before and after the load.
WesternPlains, Dave_in_AZ and Rsbest Thank this. -
The better load is a best paying load.

As a company driver? About 95% of the time yes. Unless you work for a carrier who has trailers dropped and ready for pickup at the meat cutting house. As an o/o it always pays good. Take my word with a grain of salt, every load I haul must go back to Canada and there are extra inspection stuff to do. If a usda inspection isn't done at the kill house (it generally is) I have to take it to a place where they will inspect and issue the paperwork. More paperwork for border crossing. When they let me back to Canada they tell me if they want to re-inspect it. Won't tell me before entry to Canada. If yes I go to another place where they decide if they'll allow it in. Always been yes. If no, more paperwork issued, take back to USA. A lot of extra to haul it. USA to USA loads don't have all that border and possible re-inspect nonsense. So, when I do haul meat, they have no issue paying well for it. Time consuming more than anything.WesternPlains Thanks this.

You say fresh chickens, you mean un frozen or live ? Assuming you mean un frozen, it's messy. Like dripping blood, lots of dripping blood, even dripping out the rear doors ! Onto our highways, across N.M./Tx./Ok. Then there's the washout and smell too.
88 Alpha and WesternPlains Thank this.
