From observing this thread, id say the vast majority think of it as nothing more than a slightly better paying driving job.PoleCrusher, Highway_Executive, sealevel and 2 others Thank this.

well, if you're leasing, you're right........and in many cases, worse. In my opinion, the only reason to go lease right now would be the freedom to dispatch yourself. I saw snow exactly 1 day this year, went to PA 1 time, and never further north than that all year. The only way you can be successful at leasing is to be very, very disciplined and willing to work as much as it takes to be successful. In 2014, when I was still leasing, I grossed $187k and netted $63k. A company driver doing .40 @2500 miles a week would have done $52k and never worried a minute about that funny sound or smell.
It's tough, brother and it don't look like things are going to get any better any time soon. Nearly everyone here will tell you the same thing, "Don't do it.......".91B20H8, Highway_Executive and sealevel Thank this. -
Holy crap. If i worked hard enough to gross 187k id be netting 120k. 60 to 65k is about all I've netted in each of the last 4 years. But i only worked 5 to 6 months total to do that. You guys need to find yourselves a better carrier with much better rates.

700 a week x 52 is a lot off the top....

I've been asked this before and my answer hasn't changed. The good carriers don't own company trucks. They pay percentage. And they have high paying direct freight. But they won't lease you a truck. They want experienced competent operators with a history of successfully owning a truck.sealevel Thanks this.

Despite my grumbling, SNI will have served my purpose. I'm a bit different than most, though, in that money was really secondary to freedom to do and freedom from certain things. But after 2+ years in, I realize that of the three choices of options I would have at lease end (leasing another truck, getting my own authority, or leaving trucking entirely), only the latter makes sense to me now. But that conclusion has little to do with SNI. It's more of a reflection of the distaste I now have for the industry and the shape of things to come.
However, I've got only a certain amount of time to get my next gig up and running, so I'm leaving options open. But leasing onto SNI, either with a new lease unit or my own tractor, isn't in the cards. And that IS a direct result of the company's shortcomings.jande016, Bo Hunt, Opus and 1 other person Thank this.
