What new drivers should know

What kind of truck do you have. I have driven all of them that I am aware of that we own. Volvo's (even though those are gone) International, Both old and New Macks, THe KW's and of course the new FL. ALL of them either have a headlight interrupt switch or if you actually reach down and flip the headlights back to park and back on will flash briefly between light modes. As far as the trailer interrupt, That didn't work so very well on the Volvos due to the way our trailers are wired, but there is also the flashers. If you do have some one off truck I'm not aware of with us, you can use your trailer interrupt switch instead of flashing the headlights. If a driver is looking back like he should to see if he's clear, he will notice your ID lights over the windshield flash.


To add to the pool of knowledge

After you fuel and pull up, please pull up as far as you can.. Us with reefer fuel tanks will greatly appreciate it.

Speaking of pulling up after fuel. If you plan on doing more than peeing, washing the hands, and grabbing a drink possibly a sandwich if there isn't a line to get one, go park your truck somewhere else.

Try a little trip planning instead of running as late as you can and having to create a parking spot that isn't supposed to be one. For sure use available spaces before creating your own instead of being lazy if you are that pressed for time. There are those of us that need to leave in the middle of the night. The marked spaces are usually marked to give just enough room to get in and out, you add one or two to the end, you may get woke up.

Don't run your hazards in bad weather, especially fog.... or if you really feel the need for added visibility, turn them off when someone else comes up on you. Also once someone has came up behind you and slowed down, turn yours off.

Speaking of lights in fog, I would think this is common sense, but I notice that apparently it isn't.. Use your low beams, brights only make you more blind.
