I once got trapped with a bulk tanker against a wall at rockville fuel and feed which is a concrete plant making concrete for the I270 reconstruction project. It is safe to say miles of that center barrier poured contains hundreds of thousands of pounds out of millions delivered by me and the whole company there.

    Anyway.

I backup seeking to squeeze past another bulk tanker nose to tail with me unloading. We both had r model macks. And Heil bulk tankers.

I tore his hood clean off and bent his front end on the left wheel. Plus more damage not reported by the safety of that company. Damage was in excess of 10,000 dollars.

Preventable. 24 hours later I had a pink slip and firing papers. Im told Im lucky they did not come after me for that money.

Why did I move? Suit at the plant boss ordered me to move that *&^ right dam now and get to a silo and I don't wanna hear your blubbering excuses BOY.

    So I moved. #### em. #### me.

I was just thinking maybe draft a paper contract saying that the matter was settled between the 2 parties, and then have the guy you settled with hold the signed agreement while you take a picture of it as proof that they agreed to the settlement.
No such thing as a gentlemen's agreement anymore.

Well... I was commuting to a farm when someone crossed over the little farm road in front of me striking the two cars in a offset ahead of mine. I put my maverick into a field to escape the flying cars and bodies. The scared kid literally handed over a bunch of money, exchanged information paid for the damages on the spot to everyone and took off.

I never heard from that again ever. I worked the breeding farm for the winter that year and kept my eyes peeled for that young un and his truck that hit the two in front during the morning commute.

I guess at this point their insurances got involved.

I had owned a pickup which was a nice one some years ago, went to the post office to get mail. A man in a new F250 totaled my truck in it's spot backing out of his spot. His insurance paid 6000 dollars to me to buy the truck off rather than opting for a 4400 dollar complete frame replacement and body and bed repaint etc. That truck had a 5.9 hemi with a hurst 5 speed manual and I should have kept that thing with a brand new frame and a rebuilt body to boot. It would be one of a few mistakes I ever made in my life letting that #### thing go. The allure of 6 grand was too much.

A lot of truck stops and loading docks now have security cameras all over. Add to this drivers out there that will drop a dime on you in a minute. If I were still driving today and hit something like a mirror I would report it. Most carriers safety depts are likely to terminate a driver for not reporting any accident. I would pay for another mirror if possible but there is no way I would not report it at my next opportunity.

You are so right. I caught myself processing and evaluating a captured ontario video of someone mashing Stephens with a Pam truck hoping to glean the unit numbers off it. And that tape was not even 30 hours.

Does that make me a snitch? I hope not. No one gets to do that damage and then get running. Ive rode a sleeper myself once getting crushed some time ago. Never again.

Our company recently started pushing that issue as well.

All accidents are preventable, you know. You didn't have to come to work that day, and be where that meteorite landed.

He ran off the road. That's a bit more than getting stuck in a parking lot. If he drove for me is have given him the option of deducting it from his pay a hundred a week or clean the truck out. Yes mistakes happen and I've had to get a wrecker to get me out of a bad decision once or twice, but we are responsible for our mistakes.

As far as the paint scratched. No way that's only a hundred bucks. At least five hundred to prep and blend in. Plus losing the truck for a minimum of 2 days.

Personally I'm really surprised companies even use the dac anymore. It has been proven countless times as not an accurate profile of a driver's history. It's prudent to ask yourself , " how is it that any company I work for can put whatever they want on this thing, but yet I have to jump through hoops to even see what is posted on there". Having owned my own company there are certain questions that I can't by law even ask a former employer of a prospective employee, but yet if I subscribe to DAC it's alright for me to read those same things on there. As others have posted, unfortunately you are at fault and they are preventable. When in doubt, STOP. Get out and look as many times as you need to to make whatever turns or maneuvers you need to do. I recently had an experience in Kingman AZ. I was parked at the flying J and a tanker tried pulling into the spot next to me and hit my right front fender and did some damage. The police report said that the other guy was at fault, he admitted fault, i had a dash cam recording, not to mention that my elog showed that i had been sitting there for some 30 hours for a restart. Long story short, the company told me that it had to go on my record as a non preventable . Fine, except that even non preventable is still on psp report and they don't ever go into any real detail as to what happen. It's kinda like when you get dot'd on the scale and they write up a missing mudflap. On your psp report it simply says equipment violation, doesn't say what kind, and that leaves insurance companies alot of wiggle room to imagine you were driving down the road with alot more severe problems.

Sure there is. But my question still stands, if the dude offered you the money, if you were the party suffering injury, would you take it, and say it's all good?

Yea needing a wrecker to get loose is a DOT recordable offense for the company I believe if bear sees you.
Either way, the driver should have to cough up the wrecker fee, cause that's not defective equipment, that's just not good judgement, be it lack of experience, training, whatever. I got pulled off to check where the hell I was at once, before the days of GPS, and sank almost up to the axles instantly. $400. Lessoned learned. Company never knew. Was in Arizona. Typically its not a problem, but it had just rained. DOH, DOH.
