I'm an admirer of Friedrich Nietzsche's sister, Elisabeth Förster-Nietzsche and her work in the failed attempt in creating Nueva Germania.

Did that someone say why you would never work for a big company? which he is really saying you would never last.Ignore all that kind of negativity. Most the new ppl start at a mega carrier.Starting out in this industry is not easy and very stressfull no matter who you drive for.I think you're very wise asking questions. When it comes to ppl like that guy that tried to sway you way from trucking those ppl you need to ignore completely. You said being a female you don't know if Schneider would be your best choice, what does being a female have anything to do with it?More and more ladies are joining the industry and don't let anyone tell you different. That guy could have said you wouldn't make it with a big carrier because you are a female.Companies are not going to treat you any different because of your sex and they will ecspect you to pull your own weight.Far as making a grand a week, good luck with that.Trucking is very inconsistent.Companies don't look for miles to please the driver they go where the loads are.Sometimes you'll have a good load and other times a short run and then sit for the rest of the day waiting for your next load. You as a new driver will have to work your way up to find better companies to drive for.

I think that the size of the company you shoot for is a matter personal preference. A larger company would be more willing to hire you straight out of school than a smaller trucking operation might. But it doesn't hurt in trying either one. I would check out craigslist or maybe your states employment site for other companies if you're not interested in driving for a bigger carrier. There are also quite a few options as far as what kind of driving you wanted to do: Some companies have different options (tanker,hazmat,flatbed,oversize,regional,dedicated..etc etc.) so i would try to absorb as much of it as i could and try to figure out what i really wanted to do. A lot of local P&D and line haul carriers are now hiring people straight out of an approved cdl school. I did OTR for two years and I was averaging anywhere from 6-900 a week. Just depended on the circumstances. Sometimes i drove more or less because of weather, breakdowns, or just lack of loads where i was at. I decided i wanted to be home more and now i'm making more money and i get to be home every night with my weekends off. I definitely recommend May Trucking as they are on the smaller side of the big companies.

Those who say you shouldn't work for a "Big company" usually have the wrong reasons to be talking about it. Not all of them, but if you look at the caliber/current status of the person saying it that may be an indication of why they are saying not to work for a big company.

Do what I did, pick the top 3-5 companies that will hire you and apply to all of them.

    Couple things to consider though:
    - Just because it says experienced doesn't mean you need experience; but use common sense all the same. (IE: Don't expect to haul nuclear waste off the bat or get paid the big-bucks)
    - Consider the long-term. If you plan to stay in this job, make sure it pays you for the long-term too. Some companies may pay more up front, but a year or two down the road another company will pay better and provide more opportunities.
    - This job, it pays to have a positive attitude.
    - It also pays to want to be a jack-of-all-trades/be a jack-of-all-trades.
