How long was you planning on being home when you take a LOA?Why don't you see if Celedon has a dedicated or regional position
then you'll be home on weekend and maybe a couple nights during the week.
What should I do?

I can't figure it out either, I think it has to do with making the males in our society wimps.
our last kid the doctor was so insistent that I cut the cord, I told him after doing this a few times, I would rather be at home watching tv.
Then with our third, I told the nurse who wanted me to dress up that I was tired and was going to rest, but she was insistent I go into the delivery room. She made a big fuss out of it, to the point I told her to leave me alone. Then after the third round of nurse vs. tired fat guy, I went into the delivery room and the doc said "do you want to deliver your kid" I looked at him and told him this would be my seventh time delivering a kid if I do it (yes I did this seven times), the first one was fun but it was downhill since so no and I added 'let's get this over with, I need some sleep' and that was where my wife told me to get the **** out of there and stay home, she will take a cab home.ethos Thanks this. -
Men are covered under FMLA. You may want to read up on that. The company can't do anything about you taking that leave, and if they do, you will not have to worry about money for a number of years. Just go get that CDL and do what you need to do to provide, get the experience you can and switch to a local gig if you need to be home.MidWest_MacDaddy and TROOPER to TRUCKER Thank this.

Was there for the delivery of both of my girls... loved being a part of it. Each one was different and special... no, it's not for every man but I am glad I didn't miss the opportunity.
Congrats to the OP... and I agree, look up FMLA (Family and Medical Leave Act)
Any decent carrier should be able to honor your request to be home for a bit during that time. -
Same here brother my wife flatlined 3 times giving birth to our first and the entire pregnancy was fine. On our second it was already a high risk pregnancy. Can't replace those memories though.

Three times??? Wow... yup, can't replace!!!TROOPER to TRUCKER Thanks this.

They were rushing her one way and our daughter the other way I didn't know where to go.

Mighty tough call to make there... My guess is if baby was healthy stay at moms side.
Our second was C Section... while mom was recovering, they let me stay with my daughter and give her her first bath, count her fingers and toes for the medical report and other behind the scenes stuff while she was under a heating lamp... it still makes me smile.
A nice private time between daddy and daughter before everyone started to come to visit and everything that follows.TROOPER to TRUCKER Thanks this. -
Show up with a birthing plan as thick as a CDL manual and staple the business card of a local ambulance chaser to the first page. Every one of those behind the scenes things should be standard practice for parent participation. Minus the people coming to visit lol. With my son, we were like "uh can we go home?" About an hour after he was born.
