You asked for the help, so far the replies have said NO…….. but like you mentioned in your post, “your mind says it’s yours”. Good luck
At the minimum, you should get a Dyno run with blow by test. Then find a good mechanic you can trust to go over the truck with a fine tooth comb. And get a RigDig report on it too. 750,000 miles is nearly rebuild time.
OK. lets toss this around. The transmission is an automatic. i would say that theres a difference between an automatic with a 2.41 and a manual with a 2.41? will an automatic create less driver error and more torque than youd expect because of that? what about the specs that use a 2.28 gear ratio? they make it.
I am going to be blunt and direct, DO NOT TRY TO JUSTIFY YOUR FAILED PURCHASE. this truck was abused. looking at the violations, the owner was one of those cheap POS owners who just beat the living crap out of the truck to make a buck. If you really want it, then start with a full ECM dump, all the settings, the error codes stored and so on. Then get a dyno done on it, if it is producing less than 70% of the rated HP, walk. BUT if you still want it, then look at the blowby, if it is high then walk. BUT if you still want it, then get an INDEPENDENT mechanic to look at it, not a penske mechanic, someone who you can trust and tell him you want to find every problem with the truck and document it. When he hands you the 30 or so pages of problems, go to the freight liner dealer, talk to the shop manager to see if they can give you a written quote on fixing everything - if you still want this truck. Then go back to the dealer and show him how much it will cost to get this crap fixed, tell him your offer is his asking price MINUS the repair costs and then walk away because the dealer was trying to screw you right from the start, he knows he has a truck that needs to be heading for the junk yard.
