Looking at a trailer to possibly buy and these are the caps over the hubs in the back, I’m only familiar with the versions where you have a clear cap and a plug you pull out and fill with oil.
Trailer is a 2015 Fontaine velocity
What style caps are these

Grease filled hub instead of oil.
-
Probably a grease packed wheel bearing if it uses solid caps like that.
-
It's a grease filled, or semi fluid grease filled, Hendrickson hub it appears

Ok thank you, are those any different bs the other ones is regards to quality? Trailers been sitting a year and went and looked it over today seemed to be in good shape minus tires and air bags look dry rotted with animal nestings all around them

I have a 2023 Fontaine, they use only Chevron synthetic grease. The decals on the trailer say maintenance free for 5 years.
You're supposed to call Fontaine before you take one of the caps off.You only need to jack the axle up and check if they're spinning smoothly and don't have any play in the bearings. -
If this trailer has been sitting for two years and I’m considering buying it it’s a nice trailer but have my concerns since it has been parked for two years. Would I need to re pack it with grease? Brakes on the trailer all appear to be plenty of life left but I haven’t hooked a truck up to it. Guy still hasn’t sold it but came down on price
Friend Thanks this.
