The ‘class a test’. If you want to drive a tractor trailer, then you also have to pass the ‘combination vehicle test’.
-
General knowledge for class A learner permit, then you will do the pre-trip, basic control skill and road test in a class A representative vehicle. If you want a full unrestricted class A it must be a 5th wheel type hitch, if it is a "bumper pull" type pull-behind ball or pintle hitch you will get a truck trailer only restriction.
Since you already have air brake restriction removed you will not need to take the air brake knowledge, but if you test in a class A with air brakes you will have to do the air brake portion of the pre-trip including the 3 step brake check. -
Combination and air brake tests

You make sure it's a full blood 5th wheel tractor trailer WITH A MANUAL TRANSMISSION. NOT A AUTO.
State will slap you with a restriction against Manuals if you show up with a Automatic Tractor trailer.
