Why not try Jorden/Jordon? They're a local (Natchez) flatbed company, that will get you home on weekends and some days throughout the week.

One of the nice things about living in MS, is the oppurtunities we have availible to us in the trucking industry.

Your case is a little differant, due to your lack of experience. But you CAN get a good job. Take the time to look around.

THAT IS SOOOO TRUE.... LOOK AROUND AND NOT JUST ON THE INTERNET !!!

You might want to consider training OTR then 3 months solo with a big company, then pounding through the phone books asking for the driver recruiter, you heard they were looking for a truck driver.

I was looking and am always browsing better opportunities. I don't want to be a job hopper but the fact is there are a few key times in trucking when it really isn't held against you in my opinion and experience.

    1) leaving a training company after 3 months otr experiance.
    2) leaving after 12 months.
    3) leaving after 24 months.
    4) leaving after 5 years.

Somtimes you can't get the job you want from a lack of experiance but when you qualify and the job becomes available.

    TAKE IT !!!

As long as you are moving up in pay, benefits, hometime, ect... the company you are going to will understand.

It's not quite the same thing as "I was p'd off at my dispatcher and quit because I couldn't get along or do the job"... 3 months at j.b., then 3 for swift, then 4 with schneider, then another isn't upgrading yourself its job-hopping.

I did 3 months at Transport America, A year hauling petroleum, and am now starting with a chemical hauler and plan to be here for atleast 4 years and maybe forever??? Good job, no harm, no foul, as I see it.

There are some really well paying jobs out here, you just have to dig for them because they aren't spending thousands or millions in advertizing constantly looking for the next replacement "meat in the seat" driver, they don't have too because when they hire people, the people stay because they like the job and are making great money.

    my .02 worth.

Hey and you right jordan isn't 20 miles from my house. But lack of experience kill it all. They require you to be 23 W/ one year OTR, Flatbed Perferred but will train if meet further requirements. So ....

You can make everyone happy! make your wife and son happy now by trying to run local for a year or two. We'll miss you out here on the big road but we'll get thru it somehow. Then you can make yourself happy down the road when your wife is in control of things at the house. We'll be out here waiting for you when your ready! don't forget to bring lots of pictures of the baby!!!!!:biggrin_25525:

:biggrin_25514:Man thanks you all for the helpful tips and advice!! Because i really do have a itch for the road that need to be stracth. From hearing everyone's opinion we have came to a conclusion that I will just wait until Jan.2009 beginning of the year and start off that way. I agree with that also, so that'll give me a chance to get some things I need/want for the road/truck. She's a very strong woman in my eyes, so giving her over 6 months of notice torwards my plans of hitting the road let's me relax alot do my job i have now with something better in mind!!! So Drivers Stay Safe and Make It Home Just to do it All Over Again!!!

You may want to rethink you finally position on this. Waiting until January of next year, most likely will force you into a refresher course with a trainer.

Unless that bucket you're pulling is a trailer dump. You may even get asked to return to a driving school for a refresher.

Also I can only comment on one thing that stood out to me in your cry for help! The 34 hour restart doesn't mean you get to go home!
The 34 hour restart might happen in Chicago, IL where you least want to be (watch you probably live there, l.o.l.).

Home time is what you need to discuss with the company you chose. Understand however you may take a 34 hour restart just so you have the hours to make that home time.

Just wanted to clarify that 34 hour restart doesn't mean home time!

:biggrin_2556:Yea of course am gonna have to go out with a trainer anyway to get flatbed training, etc. yea i pull the trailer dump and flowboy trailers from time to time. But my truck is a bobtail dump. Am not worry about going out with a trainer cause am looking to start off the year with a company that will train me, and get me started in flatbedding. Just looking to get into the door and gain experience.Hopefully my plans will fold open like i have laid them.. And i will be moving on to something better. And i understand the 34hour restart rule to the fullest. anywhere anytime!!! :biggrin_25510: but hey i'll make it through it.. There's alot of flatbedding going on down here in Mississippi so within a year or so i know i can become a driver with a decent company.. But thanks for the extra help.

I just wanted to comment on this because in your initial post, you wanted advice from everyone. I am a newbie in here. Anyways, Being concerned about your family always comes first. That is your instinct, but there are other issues that have to be dealt with. Being away sucks. I have a 7 yr old son.. I'm 21 years old. I have been deployed twice. First time 1 year, this time 15 months. The wife is gonna ##### and moan about you not being home, but as long as the money is coming in and the bills are paid and they know that you are safe and happy, that is all that matters. My wife and I have come to the conclusion that when I deployed, she knew I was not gonna be able to come home until this thing was all said and done. It takes a strong woman to deal with that, but after awhile you both, as a couple, except that fact that there is nothing you can do about it and continue on being as happy as possible. Now this is a little different from being on the road and trying to get home on weekends and the power for you to actually tell your employer to stick it.. BUT it relates in the way of having that same knowledge and understandment that things have to get done.. Bills have to be paid.. Accepting this lifestyle is a major challenge. You have already been on the road and know how it is. MY opinion though, Your baby and your wife are always gonna be there if they are 100% understanding and supportive. Explain that this is something that will better your whole family, financially, and this is what makes you happy. Holding back from a dream is one issue, but being able to better your family while living that dream is a dream in itself.
I have been through a lot and knowing that I'm being supported, I have no worries at home. SO, when #### hits the fan at home while you are out on the road making the money, buy her a new fan. :) In any event, Good luck in what you do. You are young like me, and only want to take the right steps. Not the wrong ones. Take care brother

Well right now at this point in my life am tired of holding out on things that i want to do and plans i want to see unfold ic40oz has a point as long as your doing what you have to do and at least getting home should be enough until am able to move on to a better company. So if everything go as plan am gonna be out with a trainer for four weeks in August, with Western Express. So that ll give me time to get a few items and put back a few bucks!!! But am ready to do what i like and enjoy doing... :biggrin_255: So i'll keep you guys update with my every move if i go or if a new job appear.. PEACE!!!!
