Lady in a day cab pulling a trailer down I-81 South through Scranton, PA with the rear axle locked and tires smoking. Pull up beside her and get her attention, then point towards the problem. She checks the mirrors, then looks at me and gives the thumbs up and keeps going. Never slowed or pulled off the highway.

^^ To posts 1 and 2, another reason a CB comes in handy. Yeah, I know that's a beating a dead horse subject, BTDT.... but STILL~!!!!!! Saved my arse a time or 2 when i was pulling OS/OD.

This is not a major WTF! thing but it happens so very often, I feel it worthy of a mention .... pulling over on the shoulder on a busy interstate to do something that no doubt could wait until the next exit. I understand a few of these are indeed true emergencies (break downs, with triangles out). But really? I've seen up to 4 trucks on the shoulder inside of of ten miles.
Then to make things worse, some wait until the worst possible place to pull to the shoulder like around a blind bend or just past the crest of a hill
Then, you will occasionally see one decide it's time to roll [from being stopped on the shoulder] and whip it into the travel lane in front of or alongside other high-speed traffic, like they can't wait an additional 10 seconds. -
This. That should be an automatic reckless ticket. Not an emergency? Sorry buddy, your license now belongs to us

I cannot understand the thinking behind simply pulling out into traffic from the shoulder. I was always taught to get the vehicle up to speed and wait for a safe opening in the traffic flow. Was I taught wrong? Have I been driving wrong all these years?

I was running west on I-80 somewhere around Wamsutter before they repaved a few years back...the lanes were pretty rutted up. I came up on a mega fleet truck, let's just say it was a slow wagon in fast traffic, who was sort of bouncing around his lane....as I passed the cab he was getting back in the seat from the sleeper with a Pepsi and a sandwich he had just made. The only thing holding him in the lane was the ruts in the road. Maybe he thought cruise contol was autopilot?

I watched a driver from a large flatbed company that prides themselves in their Black peterbilts, go to a shipper in Lancaster pa to pick up a preloaded set of coils. He comes in and drops his trailer right next to his preload but parks it close enough to where he can't get in and fix the tarps or check the securement. He got under it, attached his air lines but couldn't get to the landing gear. So he released the brakes and goes to pull up as he does one of the legs starts dragging and off comes the trailer onto the ground breaking the landing gear, and the front coil securement come loose and caused the coil to come out of the racks and roll forward onto the ground. That was a bad bad day for the black and chrome
