Like skeet said aquire a good phone. Cheaper than a truckers gps. I have an android. Can get e-mail ,internet, the whole nine even has a gps locater that pinpoints your location.

I have hauled Nitro, & Tampons. If it fits in the trailer, and pays the bills, Haul it.

I would carry a "FOX five point three". Mace it is issued to the police departments. The maximun allowed by law. Since it is such a strong all metal case will not leak, one hand operation, slide the thumb under the cover and press.

On top of a good map get a truckers friend book tells you what's at the next exit as far as mile markers where truck stops are if they have showers or not cat scales and if its a small Med or large truck stop or has a restraunt in it. You can pick em up at alot of flying J's. As all of these are excellant tips everyone mentioned ... get a spare key made for sure it doesn't happen often but when that time comes you'll be glad you did it.
