Are there any free resources I can use to make sure I am getting a good rate?
I am a new O/O and received what i think is a good rate. It was offered off top from the broker so I did not negotiate anything. However, with this route I have to go through mountains, up steep hills, and there will soon be snow. I am thinking I may need to negotiate more pay, but I'm not sure how much more and what to base it on.
Also, for working Holidays, should I be asking for more? and how much more is reasonable?

Both DAT and Truckstop have previous 15 day average for routes. I think Truckstop is $100/mo and DAT recently raised rates to $125/mo.

    I always negotiate
I don’t ask what they can pay. I tell them everything they need to know like when I will load. Deliver and I can do it fo X$

if you ask you let them reply and lose the ball

    That’s what negotiations are
Even great rates I try and bump a few hundred. If they say no. Then I make a decision

Holding a load over a holiday should be extra.

Yes, you might be sitting on your couch drinking hot coco, but in reality your trailer is being used as temp storage until they can receive the product.

Running over the holiday should also be extra. Supply & demand. Less drivers on the road = less options the broker has = more profit for you.

Since you took this load, figure out exactly what it cost you to pull it. Keep a log of routes & rates vs. cost to run. Then after some time you will have a quick flip to guide as a place to START your bidding at.

I definitely agree with this, though I typically won't call on loads unless I'm willing to take the offered rate. It's also good to tell them you'll consider it, but you plan to do some more shopping around. I've had several times where they called me back within half an hour agreeing to my rate.
