You would do WELL in your career to LISTEN to the wisdom of the last posts by @STexan and @TripleSix.
It's all well and good to park it early and often when you don't have experience, BUT you NEED to gain experience through PRACTICE in order to become a complete driver in the top income level. Practice is the key. Next opportunity you have in slick conditions when you are bobtail in a parking lot, you should practice.
Try starting in 4th gear, get it going at idle speed and then romp on the throttle with and without the Power Divider engaged. Feel the difference. Then bring it up to 1500 rpm's and set the Jake on high and let off the throttle with and without the Power Divider engaged. Feel the difference.
Do the same with a trailer attached.
Learn what the Power Divider is, and how you should engage it or disengage it. It's an extremely important tool that you probably haven't been taught in driving school or during your training.
If you don't have them, I strongly recommend downloading the MyRadar app and the AccuWeather app. Often you will see you only need to go another 20-30 miles and you are clear of the weather. Use that 20-30 miles to get some practice. Keep it slow and steady, no hard braking, PLENTY of following distance, and nice loose hands on the steering wheel.
Sure, you are going to see a lot of truckers flying by you. They might be WELL within their safety zone. They might be running with deep all terrain drive tires and have tens of thousands of hours experience running in conditions far worse than this. Let them go. Stay within your own comfort zone. Learn to chain up to STAY out of trouble.
Become a complete driver. Become the safe, RELIABLE driver that your customers can count on. You aren't going to become that driver until you make up your mind to continue to improve FOREVER.BigBob410, Pedigreed Bulldog, x1Heavy and 2 others Thank this. -
