Speaking on parking during foul weather...for you people trying to avoid driving in snow:

I can't emphasize this enough. The weather went to hell. You hear that the roads are getting shut down because the plows can't keep up. What do you do?

    1. STAY OUT OF THE REST AREAS!!!!!!!!! That's where the snow plows pile all the snow from the highways. if you are in there when it snows you are fuqued.
    2. Top your fuel tanks off! If the bigroad gets shut down, the truckstop is going to run out of fuel in 4 hours.
    3. Monitor the weather
4.***** BE READY TO MOVE. Don't be doing laundry or sitting in the drivers lounge watching CSI and NCIS. You have to be ready to move. That means being rested.

"But Six, I can't sleep in the day time."

Lie down in the bed anyway. Bad weather normally hits in waves...every day and a half. If you shut down for bad weather on Monday and Tuesday is clear, the next storm should hit around Wednesday afternoon. You have to get in and out in a day and a half. Well, that's if you don't want to take too big of a hit in the pockets.

The worst thing about the megas is all the stupidity and handholding that goes along with it. You and I have held worse jobs, driven worse trucks, went to worse places. The difference was, there wasn’t anyone holding our hands.

...but doesn't the lack of hand holding make the job better? I'd rather be left alone shoveling manure than to be hovered over pushing papers across a desk for 3x the money.

You are correct, sir. If there was a mega that didn’t handhold, it would be the top rated place. Sink or swim. Handholding is the most unnatural act in the natural world. Figure it out or die.

Actually you are better off moving in bad weather, out of the region if you can. In the parking lot at the truck stop is where all the fun usually starts. This guy slid into that guy. This guy got stuck on a hill. I’m stuck in my parking spot because the trailer is empty...

This is ABSOLUTELY TRUE. One time, I was in a shut down situation on I80. I backtracked west past two truck stops and came back east...parked in psuedo rest area. No trucks, zero drama, straight forward. Slippery but nobody else to bump into. Greatest decision at the time.
