Yes but what matters is what's on the confirmation sheet. If broker told him to deliver by such and such time and receiver says no, come back Monday, then broker will probably have to eat some detention and if he refuses then load could legally be put into storage.
Not saying that is what happened here, but it happens too often. Some o/o end up eating the cost or agree to stay for $100 or so. Some o/o's , me included, are not willing to be a rolling warehouse. I know when I take a load when it's to be delivered, I also understand that if I don't make my delivery on time then I will probably loose some on the rate or be scheduled for a later time, or both.
Like I said, I would love to hear the other side of this, the carrier has a reason because this is more of a hassle for him than it would have been to just deliver the load.
What to do when your load is being held hostage ?

Sounds to me like the broker threatened with non payment for missing the appt times.. so the carrier is doing the same thing I would. I dont deliver for free either.
HurstKB3MMX, spectacle13 and TripleSix Thank this. -
Just agree on how much he wants and let the receiver confirm he's at the dock and issue a com check.

9 days...in the flatbed world thats 2 business weeks. Has to be a decent sized carrier as i couldn't afford to keep a trailer tied up for so long.
I have to agree with Mr Hurst. The broker had to try a strongarm tactic. But see, legally, that load belongs to the carrier until the consignee signs for it. If your buddy was having problems with this carrier, he shouldn't have said anything until the load was delivered and then made sure to never do business with that carrier again.
"Well, what could be done now, Six?"
Your buddy is going to have to negotiate and come up with an agreement for delivery (which would have to include storage fees) or file a claim. He should have filed a claim a week ago. -
He's waiting for another appt which is really hard to get, Carriers mc#819666
Broker never said anything about non payment, just said he'll pay per confirmation as always (30 days net) ,now broker checked carrier411 and it turns out they did it to Echo Logistics as wellLast edited: Nov 2, 2015

Bet a large sum of money there is another side to this story.TripleSix Thanks this. -
If those people really want their shipment so badly, why is an appointment so hard to get? It didn't seem so difficult if there were 3 previous appointments.
And thats why i set my own appointments.KB3MMX Thanks this. -
They have 4 reports for doing this. Why did he even use them?

He was busy and didn't have time to check , now he's really pissed at himself but it's too late
