Weekends off depend on the operation. Where I work we have weekends off and the places that do have weekends on it's usually not a full schedule it's usually the newer guys on the board running a handful of routes only serving the real big time customers. They don't just give weekend routing to anyone. Some small timer place that only wants 1 or 2 day a week routing probably won't get a weekend.

The only places that get weekends are 4-5 day a week routing customers.

However anymore to be honest when they try and set these accounts up sales trys to get everyone to go for one day a week routing because it cost the company less money. Instead of us having to ship you 2,3 or 4xs a week we can ship you 5,000lbs once a week and not have to go to your location again or pick your order again. Which saves both the transportation and warehouse staff work.

Not all the time and not in every case, but in some instances accounts are incentivized to only choose one day a week routing and because that does save the company money the customer will get rebates and things.
Now it doesn't always work because some consultants would say no no no you want 2 day a week so you can spend less money on inventory and run a leaner operation, but generally if possible sales does try to get places to go once a week.

Now a big juicy commercial account that has little freezer and cooler space, but blows through product they will ship 5 days a week if they want.

But if you live in a place that's mostly old folks homes and schools generally that's Monday-Friday work.

Where I work in our market half our market is schools and old folks homes, out of the 16 trucks at our yard 8 go out and do just old folks homes and schools and the other half do commercial restaurants. Because 50% of our business is old folks homes and schools which are only set to take deliveries Monday-Friday we really only work Monday-Friday. Because of that our shipping warehouse is only set to work Sunday Night through Thursday night so there is no weekend deliveries not really in our market. If something does have to go out at off times it's usually known about ahead of time and the trailer is packed Thursday night into Friday morning and it'll sit in the yard till it's time to go.
