Hello, I'm a city LTL O/O. I'm thinking of buying a 2nd truck and putting a driver in it. The question is how much to pay him ? I'm thinking a percentage is in order, but do I take it off the top of what the truck makes or do I subtract estimated fuel costs first. should I pay 35% ? 40% ? Any advice from city LTL fleet owners would be greatly appreciated.

What would it take to hire you? Would you split the fuel with your O/O ? Do you want them to ask for extra freight on the shippers dock? Want him to keep it clean? Fix minor problems? Report majors problems right away? Be on time everyday ? Complete lessor reports clean and neat?

A true business partner would be worth half what the truck gets if he has the credentials to back it up. Pay less, get less......

At least $18 an hour with overtime after 40. Paid on W-2 not 1099. I know I would not sit in traffic and bump 15 docks a day for "percentage" pay.

    chalupa Thanks this.
