Hey, once an owner operator you always think like an owner operator. If you have ever been down out somewhere with no one other than yourself to depend on, you learn what you need to have at hand to get on down the road without calling for assistance and giving up your whole check for a road svc call. We even carried spare tires mounted up and all the stuff to change one. Ive thrown almost new alternator belts off and fouled another one or two off when it flew apart. Everyones got their own idea. Some guys running out yonder carried a alternator and starter not that long ago. We carried what we needed to make it unless it was a catastrophic failure of some sort. If you drive for a company that may limit what they will allow or want you to do. I understand that thinking. I saw an owner operator get a blown out tire off the outside of a drive axle with an old screw driver, a utility knife and a piece of small pvc pipe he found laying around the rest area. Managed to get the carcass off the rim and head on in for home. He was empty and only had about a hundred miles to get home...True Story. Every individuals situation is different . Company drivers have more resources than an independent.

We are a small family, son and SIL on the road..

SIL just finished 25yrs as an MP, when things go wrong he sits and expects the little green truck(mechanic) to roll up.

Couple of weeks ago, cost use $114 to replace a blown marker light on the tractor... He is learning slowly that he no longer works for National defence (unlimited budget)..
