I don't like butt connectors they come apart to easy. I use wire nuts and put some rtv or silicone caulk in the nut with wires. Maybe I'm just not good at putting butt connectors on.
What tools should every trucker carry?

A properly clamped butt connector shouldn't come apart, especially vs. wire nuts.

You're going to want a little of everything. I just went to the TA and basically got one of most every tool, called my boss and he paid for it over the phone with his credit card.

Yesterday we had a snow storm. Horizontal snow/freezing ice pellets. I was in my 4 wheeler on my way back from picking up a part for my snowmobile. I am EB on the interstate and I see a B-train flatbed parked on the WB shoulder with his 4 ways on. 1/4 mile down the road I see a yellow hi-vis jacket walking down the EB shoulder. I figure it's the driver so I stop and pick him up. He broke a wiper blade and is walking back to the last exit to get a new one. He had to walk across 4 lanes on interstate, jump a jersey barrier and hoof it through 8 inches of snow in a pair of running shoes. -
Not sure if it's been mentioned but spare turbo boost clamps are a good thing to have. I've blown three of these things in my life. I carry two of each size.....one for me and one for the fella that's broke down and doesn't have a spare.

Mechanics have a tool box. I have a 3 door Merritt headache rack with lifting lugs that I move from truck to truck. Looks like crap on the back of a 359 but don't leave home without it.

Hey rank & icepick, you would be surprised the amount of stuff you can pack in a small space. I carried an alternator but never a starter. I know boys that carried one of each and an extra pulley and nut for the alternator. I had a bolt on the radiator put a hole in an almost air to air hose. I didnt see it when I installed the hose. When the motor torqued up it got enough contact to give out and blow after about 4 months service. Had an extra hose ( I carry clamps too) and put it right back together on the ramp in about 20 mins. A lot of trucks past by. When I was tightening the last clamp I heard breaks being set behind me and an older fellow walked up and ask if I was ok. Told him what happened and that I was ready to put the hood down. Thanked him for stopping. He grinned and said he ran old equipment too. Looked around the end of my trailer to see a really well cared for 359. Clean as new money! Told me he always carried clamps and an extra hose. Me and him were cut off the same cloth. Have a good day !
