Lots of big big loads come from the ports. In my line of work, youre not going to survive without one.
A Chinese company tried to buy the SS America. They wanted to tow it to China for a complete overhaul and use it as a cruise ship and keep the SS America name. I think some American politicians got involved and blocked the sale. Personally, I liked the idea of it being refurbished and put to good use. Heard the latest about the Titanic? NEW YORK – An Australian billionaire is getting ready to build a new version of the Titanic that could set sail in late 2016. Clive Palmer unveiled blueprints for the famously doomed ship's namesake Tuesday at the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum in New York. He said construction is scheduled to start soon in China. Palmer said 40,000 people have expressed interest in tickets for the maiden voyage, taking the original course from Southampton, England, to New York. He said people are inspired by his quest to replicate one of the most famous vessels in history.
I have one. neither the Air Force base, nor the Army Fort accepted it as valid I.D. I had to apply and receive a DoD I.D card to access base. The Port of Anchorage also would not recognize my TWIC and I had to go to security and wait for an escort. TSA at airports does not recognize them, which is totaly ##### absurd, as they issue them. Do not spend the money on one unless you are required by an employer. They are a cash cow for the FEDS in my experience.
Yeah, all military installations requires you to apply for a pass. This pass requires another back ground check. The new rules apply to all personnel who do not have a pass or military ID. Entry requirements are exactly the same requirements to obtain a twic. You will not be given entrance if you have committed any of the crimes that would disbarr you from a hazmat or twic.
I have only used it at the ports in Galveston and Philly and the New Jersey Port across from Philly. The Military Bases I use my Retired Military ID.
Always at the ports and chemical plants. Every military base has either just inspected the truck and let me go or, in the case of Portsmouth, waved off my TWIC and held me at the gate while they ran their own background check on me. The container ports, at least in Jersey City, require a Sea Link card as well. It's a racket that I'd avoid until an employer required it.
I started working at the Port of Oakland , applied for the twix and never used it not even once since I left... It's still nice to have it though, just in case one day I go back or things change with my current situation. You just never know, you know?
I have a question for you military guys. On the load I took into Portsmouth, I took from a driver who they wouldn't let in. Driver says he has no idea why, that he's still in the Army reserves w/ a medium level security clearance. How does that work? I'm guessing they don't want an Army guy around all those submarines.
That's what I'm asking though, what would keep him out of delivering groceries to America's finest but still allow any security clearance within a different branch? Or are you just saying he's full of #### all around?
