MD is the same way unfortunately, and will not honor any other state's permit.

If western movies have any degree of historical accuracy, even back then one had to check their hogleg at the door at some places or they weren't allowed in.

Those D battery aluminum Maglites are multipurpose. Tire thumper, flashlight and head or knee thumper.

You know an ICE PICK comes in handy when you pick up a trailer with frozen doors.

NJ is probably the worst. They're technically "may issue" but in practice you have a practically 0% chance of being issued a carry permit unless you can show them a convincing enough reason why you need it.

A hatchet.I may need to chop edges off of some oversized pallets.Starting fluid and a barbecue lighter could be a makeshift flamethrower or not.If you don't go thru any Communist States ,I would recommend a Glock preferably in .357 sig caliber.I decided a county jail cell is larger than a sleeper, less dangerous than driving, time to eat and watch cable tv,so if they wanna tear me down...I'll take my chances. Before you go spritzing everyone with the wasp spray, be sure to read what the label says in regards to using it for anything other than its intended purposes. If you get attacked right outside the cab door, sure, it's easy enough to claim, "well, it was the only thing handy at the time". Not so difficult to deny you were carrying it as a weapon when you're three rows away from your truck in the truck stop parking lot. Some perp who finds themselves on the losing end and gets away will keep it to themselves, but one that gets caught will try to drag you down with them - be mindful of that. Pepper spray actually IS intended for self defense, and leaves less room for them to get even with you by way of legal liability.
As for guns.. how do I say this? I'm a combat vet and a Type 1 FFL holder, and fully support the 2A. However, if you're one of these people who couldn't fight their way out of a wet paper bag (and I know this applies to some of you on here, regardless of what past heroics you claim to have under your belt at a truck stop counter), strapping up isn't going to magically transform you into John Rambo. And if I sound less than convinced in the ability of people to make an accurate self assessment and make an appropriate judgment call regarding this, keep in mind that we're talking about an industry with an alarmingly high number of people who can't seem to figure out how to flush a ###### toilet. And if you think the way you told everyone you were a Navy SEAL who can kill people just by blinking at them - in spite of you looking like Jabba the Hut - is going to make people wary of confronting you, I have some unfortunate news - we all know you're full of ####. So these people who get a CHL, have no actual training to their name, and think that putting 10 rounds through a piece of paper teaches them everything they need to know in a real world situation... well, they're just begging to get their ##### handed to them. There's a reason I and most people don't carry nunchakus - I would fully support a person's right to carry them and use them in their own defense, but, the thing of it is, I and most other people wouldn't have the first ####ing clue what to do with them. Firearms are the same way - the difference is, people will much more readily acknowledge their inability with the nunchakus.
If you're completely untrained, situationally unaware, and complacent, none of it will matter. You WILL find yourself on the losing end. I don't care if you're carrying an Uzi - if you've got your nose pressed to your phone looking for imaginary little chimpokomons or whatever, you're not paying attention to your surroundings. You will lose.
Maybe the first question to ask should be, "What can I do to discipline myself to remain situationally aware at all times in these instances?", then get into weapons and training from there.

lol...You gotta love those "white lies' at the coffee counter....... And you don't want to be rude either and tell them to shut up before you really make yourself look like an ###........

Yet,They still carry on...Its Usually that 'Skinny' guy that looks undernourished in size 25 jeans with greasy straight hair and aggressive behavior as he is looking for a friend to help pay the Bills in the trailer village .

Or you have the 'husky' not too fatt, Guy runnin his mouth about his 379 0r W-900 and just wont shut up about his arrogance and demeanor..........then he starts the "I don't ever touch anything under $2.85 per mile"

Then you have the Quiet ones...THOSE ARE THE WORST...because they seem to 'outwit' you with there "Im better than you" technique by sizing you up on your appearance and actions that you do in the restaurant.
Those guys are the ones who want others to suffer, They make Good Money,Go Home to their Brick Tri-Level on 5 acres and make their wives Rub them down from head to toe AFTER their done Punishing the Kids.

Fox 5.3 pepper spray is all you need. Watch youtube videos of police, bouncers and military people cry like little babies and brought to their knees when hit with that stuff. Some said they rather take a bullet over getting sprayed with that stuff.

Hitting someone stone cold sober with that stuff probably works pretty good. But when you have someone hyped up on painkillers, alcohol and whatever else they can get into their veins, not so effective.
