What will happen at a DOT inspection with a cracked windshield?

That is good. I take it that when he got his truck he did not bother to get the extra windshield ins. Cost very little every week. No deductible. Replaced for free, and this included the road call to come to you. if he is in the hole, then there is something extremely wrong with him. I am in a new T660 studio, solo, and in 16 months, been in the hole once, and that was when home sick for 4 weeks, and only in the hole for 1 week.

 

There are avenues for dealing with bad mentors... If the DM doesn't help, you can get a hold of of Fleet Manager, if that doesn't work, there is the Terminal Manager... Problem should be solved by then... As far as his money problems, I would never loan money to someone I just met... Heck, don't even do it for family.

 

Exception: can be covered with a 3/4" disk ....

If its in your field of vision you are out of service.

 

Safelite may be competitive with the car in your driveway, but unless they are your only choice on your truck that you are paying out of pocket for....avoid them.
Had to replace driver side glass on a Pete back in Jan. & s/lite wanted twice as much with a extra day or two wait. Peterbilt in Stratford, MO got me right in on a Monday morning & down the road. There is no wait for anything to cure either.

(c) Windshield condition. With the exception of the conditions listed in paragraphs (c)(1), (c)(2), and (c)(3) of this section, each windshield shall be free of discoloration or damage in the area extending upward from the height of the top of the steering wheel (excluding a 51 mm (2 inch) border at the top of the windshield) and extending from a 25 mm (1 inch) border at each side of the windshield or windshield panel. Exceptions1) Coloring or tinting which meets the requirements of paragraph (d) of this section;(2) Any crack that is not intersected by any other cracks; (3) Any damaged area which can be covered by a disc 19 mm (3/4 inch) in diameter if not closer than 76 mm (3 inches) to any other similarly damaged area.

 

Pre-trips are required, but can be just flagged.

You are on your DOT break and you just start the truck up and roll without checking anything? What if someone pulled your 5th wheel handle? What if they stuck a nail in front of your tires? What if they broke the seal on your trailer? What if they took your fuel?
