What would cause a trailer tire to do this?

This was from someone hitting a curb before they left it for me to find.

More dry rot on this tire but the markings on the sidewall give it away.

Only one road in to this place and the turn was really tight. The dirt inside the curbing was dug out like a pothole, no sidewalk, so you can roll over two curbs in one turn...

Ok well, I'd had gotten back to this sooner, but I was trying to get on the road because this put me 4 hours behind schedule. According to the guy that they sent out to change the tire, he said that he didn't see any obvious marks indicating where I impacted a solid object like a curb. He did say he has seen numerous of these from curbed tires, but that they usually always have done sort of abrasions from the curb. He pulled back the flap of the sidewall and said it looks as though the sidewall separated due to dry rot and general ware.

I think he is correct on both accounts. Dry rot and wear will weaken the area and, therefore, make it more susceptible to failure by impact.

Pothole at speed can do that.

And if you did somehow cut through that, who would be dumb enough to risk having a grenade blow up in their face?
