WOW. I've always been told learn to weld aluminum if you want to be rich. I guess they are right.

Not unless you are working outside hanging off the side of a building lol. Other than that all welding jobs are meh at best.
I would just tap it back in and grind down any nasty edges like you said.

Something tells me you are a 1099 contractor and you have signed a contract, that states you will pay for any damages, am I right??
A friend brought a contract over for me to read not long ago. In the fine print, he would have been on the hook for any repairs, including mechanical for the truck, out of the low drivers wages he was to get. Plus he had to pay his part of the shop rent and utilities on the shop.It would have taken a brain dead moron to have signed it.

No aluminium, but I was a commercial diver in a past life. Did a bit of underwater welding. They paid well to weld patches on tugboat rudders, coast guard cutters, freighters, barges, 300lb zinc's to sheet walls. They save a ton of cash not having to drydock. The real fun is burning. Check out the broco underwater torch. There might even be videos. Quite shocking, literally..

I had a buddy do underwater work in the gulf until they messed him up in a sat tank. He made great money but the work was really inconsistent so he had to budget properly.

At a good company they would say "thanks for noticing. Let's get that fixed" and that would be the end of it. I get thanked by the shop for flagging and bringing them trailers with issues. I've had a spate of bad luck this year getting hit 3 times in my new truck. I'm unlucky but I'm not worried either.

Sat is crazy, wasn't for me. I worked about 2yrs offshore at seamar. Sur D O2. Around ~300' mixed gas. Fun times! I messed my back up pretty good out there too.. LoL. Is his name Angelo, maybe Dean? You don't have say.. It's a pretty small world, or well seemed like it used to be anyway. I know a few more inland guys from Tampa still too..

Steve K. He got a tumor on his spinal cord and something else that needed a bunch of work. He's okay now and they bought him out so he did okay but still scary ####.
