One thing I forgot to mention, it is a broker that is requesting the bid, unfortunately not a direct customer.

I wouldnt change a thing. They may be able to sell it for $1500/day.

If anything your 1350/day has less worth now in "pay" as there is no long opportunity profit so to speak of increasing the relationship into the future. Im probably not using the correct technical terms there but I think you know what I mean.

The broker is thinking $750/day. “Well, it’s only 250 miles. That’s $3/mile. You should be satisfied with that.”

Hence the problem with mileage pay. $1350 is NOT being greedy. Not at all. That’s a day rate. If the shipper is slow or the receiver takes his time, 250 miles, one way, will suddenly eat up your entire day. So, at the very least, you should run a day rate. Right?

Again, thanks so much. I'll submit it and see what happens, I'm ok either way, if it doesn't happen then it was if anything an experience. One thing that concerns me is it's furniture, coming in via truck(s) to the main warehouse, then I would pick up my loaded trailer and bring it up to the regional distribution warehouse where it gets sorted and loaded on 26 foot straight trucks for home delivery. With as many hands that are involved in this I wonder how any possible damage claims might be handled, as there is now way of telling when, where, or by who something got damaged.

Yes, a day rate was exactly what I was thinking. If everything goes smooth on this run it could be an easy 6 hour day, but we all know how that goes.

If the broker is quoting it like that then they are just screwing themselves. If I read correctly, this is an overnight run, every night correct? To me this is definitely a day rate type of situation. If they want two turns ran per night then the 2nd turn will be heavily discounted but until then, it is what it is.

Being furniture id definitely stick to this rate. I know of the furniture company in my area and they have one heck of a time getting their stuff moved when rates are what they are. When the money is easy for trucking, the majority only want the easy loads. Therefore, less desirable shoots up in cost. As for damage, when they sign off that the trailer has arrived, its now their problem. Id guess though they don't want service failures or they have a big crew sitting idle first thing in the morning. That would be costly. aka pay the trucker well to have someone consistent.

Correct, run would start around 6pm, drive 2 hours, pick up hopefully what would be a loaded trailer, then head back. They did mention the fact that the truck MUST be there, otherwise there's a bunch of empty straight trucks come morning and alot of unhappy customers not getting their furniture.

It's actually 125-130 one way, 250-260 for the daily round trip.

Let us know how this turns out for you..if you can.. I hope it goes your way !! .. just my 2 cents worth but I would use the on time delivery as a selling point in my favor.. but again that's just another reason I would feel comfortable with my bid being where it is..
    Best of luck !!! ...

Thanks Midwest Trucker.. for breaking it down better !
