More fuel pedal is ALWAYS the answer. You just gotta be in a low enough gear for it to do ya some good.
I slid down Monarch pass kinda like that last year. Couldn't hit tractor brakes. Couldn't hit johhny bar, couldn't do a #### thing except hit the fuel pedal to keep the trailer behind me. Put it on the shoulder hoping to find a little extra traction in the deeper snow, which I did, and made it to the bottom. Just as they were putting out the "chains required" signs behind me, and thinking how much that just sucked lol. -
Don't 4get your power divider
-
I never worry about that power divider. I worry about the trailer leading me down hill. I've done what the OP is talking about and it ain't no fun but, it can be done if ya don't panic.
-
I have done it also. And It is much easier with the power divider in and the wheels getting better traction
-
Sorry guys...But my mind is still on that curve, at the bottom.
-
Ok so whatcha going to do, Cause Im sitting up top watchin you and lettin everyone on ttr know whats goin on on my putor.
Go for it big boy!!!
Oh and why was it we didnt throw our chains on b4 we started this crap??? -
Chains? What chains? No Jake either. Dang, you people is spoiled.
-
Certainly not.
I've driven those conditions, less the ice and weight. With a single axle corn binder (no jake), and a 53 ft furniture van.
All I needed was a shower and a pry bar when I got down.
I've had those exact conditions (less the speed) happen while grossing 79k. I used the shoulder to slow myself down, and come to a stop...again.
You mention the ditch, but nothing about a shoulder being there at all. All we have is ice, hill, ditch, trees, curve, and LOTS of weight and speed.
The conditions you describe do not leave much to do, except wake up sweating.
Of course, no one has mentioned dumping the tag and shifting the weight forward to the tractor. We don't know if it was possible at all...what year ?
Was the rig equipped with sanders?
So you see... I've had several hours to dwell on this. So anything I say is mute. Cuz I woulda been one dead ^&%#&/ a long time ago. -
Make peace with my maker with what time I had left to live.
