If the DOT (the only road authority to have the authority to shut down a highway for any time over 2 hours) shuts it down, you aren't going down the road. Doing so will get you ticketed.
If the road is still open and he makes his own decision to shut down, THAT will get him in hot water.
I'd like to see a case example of a driver who has been arrested for stopping due to weather though to believe he's going to jail from being arrested. THAT I call ######## on.

MN DOT and all states are also exempt as you are claiming as well.
But that still does not relieve you of the FMCSR if the dept states so.
Somethings they choose to force on your just like the rest of us. Like pre/post trips and also following all motor vehicle laws.

I never said I was exempt from all regs. Reread my posts. Also traffic laws are not dot laws. Pre trips? Take a look at my truck. I'm a local driver..No logging is required.p -

Partially correct....
When EVER something happens. In your control or not. Make a note of it.
These are legal documents and can be called into question in a court of law months/years later. -

The reason I mentioned it is that I suspect that Canadians have more experience driving on ice (and are more comfortable with it) than most Americans.
