Happened to me the other day. Drop and hook turned into a live unload. Had 3.5 hrs approximately on arriving, took over 5 to get unloaded. Drove off duty about an hour to the nearest truck stop(that I knew about)/and home. Was my load home, so I was going. Next day get a message to call about the off duty driving, told them I headed home. That was that, just updated the log remarks to say that. No disciplinary action, not even a talk. Lol. Though I don’t abuse it. Done it maybe 3/4 times to get out of a customer empty.

 

Let them finish loading you. If your company lets you edit your logs make it an 8 hour break then go to the yard. If you can't edit (I can't) then park somewhere even illegally for the remainder of the ten. If you can't do that then bite the bullet and drive to the yard and take an eight after that.
