Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.
What would you have done?

Yippers... That is what I would have suggested... I would have fired him on the spot. So where do I apply? I'm brand new out of school but am looking for a job where I can get right out there. THanks. TD.
-
Serious right... Sounds like he was getting a bit big for his britches and forget he is replaceable.
-
If what your saying is 100% true and 100% of the story, then yes I would fire him. However, there is two sides to every story and I question why you would need reasurance from a trucking board for fireing him and I also question 9 trucks and 1 year of experience? That's just my questions before I take sides.....I'm not saying your right he's wrong, or he's right, your wrong........I just need all sides of the story to pass judgement.
rjones56 Thanks this. -
I would make it a habit of only hiring drivers with established DAC's. Not that it would have prevented it but you are most likely going to get a driver that will be able to handle a situation like ac breaking. I commend you though. You were very generous and gave a new driver the benefit of the doubt to prove himself. Especially in your new truck. I doubt however the ac was the only reason. I think otr probably got to him. Sounds like he is young and the otr stresses got to him. Good luck wish I was working for you!

Just a FYI to all the DAC supporters... MOST small companies are not hooked up with DAC. Some larger companies are not hooked up with DAC.
In my 7 yrs of driving I only drove for one company that reported to DAC. -
For the comment about just one year, I worked for another company as a office manager before. When the owner decided to get out of trucking I opened my own company. We run only reefers and focus mainly on the southwest. And the driver had over 25 years of expierence.

I would fire him on the spot and shut off his fuel cards. Any deadhead without authorization.

U need another driver leave me a note, want to go small no more big companies

Past performance indicates future behavior. He did it once, he'll do it again. Let him go.
