1. Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

What would you have done?

    OK....Thank's for the clarafication.

There are ways of dealing with the ones you're referring to that I will not discuss on a public forum...But they work very well.

My first thought is, yes i would called you first, but there there's other options then the way he handeld it, when my air quit on the hotest day in Dallas tx, i didnt know what temp was in my cab cause my little thermoter only went too 112 and the red stuff broke thru the top and i was sitting in rush hour traffic, but i didnt get mad , nope ,just roll the windows , down and sweat it out till i got north too ta, went in call boss, told him, he told me go grab a motel room , call back in am , i told him the load delivers in okie for 1 am, he told dont worry about it we got it coverd and told me too put it in the shop and was too keep the old belts and i said np, got back too shop ,handed em the belts and they replace the belts with there belts , which i didnt understand, but think i figure it out , due too a warrenty thing, anyway i like too work for you, even i know you turn on the reffer for produce , if nuthen else too get air moving, i even hauled watermelons from the south in a dry box , mostly ran at night , then when i stopped i chain opean the door while i eat supper,:biggrin_25525:

The truck I drive all day does not have AC. Mind you I don't sleep in it, I sleep at home with no AC.

I had a compressor go out in Arizona a couple of years ago. This was before Idle Air went bankrupt. I was enroute to a terminal in Houston where the repair could be made about 900 miles away. Company was ready to pay a Petro for a new compressor when I volunteered to run without it to save money. Even though it was 100 degrees I knew I could plan the trip to use Idleair to sleep.

The fact that they were ready to spend big money motivated me to save them money. They could have forced me to run it to the terminal and I would have done it with some resentment. This way the same ends were achieved but I sure felt better about it. If you want an employee to care you have to show them you care. That really is your only competitive advantage over the big companies.

:biggrin_2556: I was kinda wondering why all the fuss about air anyway, and all the creature comforts we take for granted today, think of our forefathers with them old trucks , going across the country on old spring seats , no air , heat may or may not work , stop every so often too whipe the windows off of mist en stuff, spring ride all around even on trls , today even a old tractor 2003 is even a lux for today driver , compared too them old days, so im from the farm , used too be out in the heat all day ,loading hay bales at 98 and high humidty, so when i see someboby complain about the heat , i know there from the city, and idel air went broke, wow, why is then i went too there web site this morning and there building new locations all over , is this a old web site, back then in 93 i stopped in and had a look see, i thought it was a good idea , shut the truck off, and i was running reefer , so you could save that much fuel for the company while ref was running,:biggrin_255:

Got papers today where this ex driver filed with the dept of labor claiming we make our drivers run with non ac trucks and are notified of problems and dont fix them. I'm not really concerned as I've got the reciepts from where we did get the truck worked on for him. Had to write a nice long letter to them explaining everything. This guy is a real piece of work.

If I misread or misunderstood I apologize. Sure sounded like you would send him to the blender though lol. DAC reports remain a necessary evil...
