The shoulder on 54 was made with that in mind. Naturally if it wasn't safe I wouldn't have done it.

And you should be courteous because it's the right and professional thing to do.

I wouldn't worry about other drivers.do you think they would be nice to you heck most are in too much of a hurry to even signal a thank you.when it comes to someone passing you there's no need to go out of your way. They have a faster vehicle they'll pass you no need to get on the shoulder.

You do not take that truck onto the shoulder. If that big lug wants to get by and has the horses to do it. Dare him to do it. If there is going to be a big mess it will be because he actually tried to pass.

I'll say one other thing and it's a two part problem. First part is the Governor is stupid in a high speed state like Texas, I think it's 85 in some places. I don't think I have the courage to creep along at 62 presenting a lethal threat to people coming up on me at 85-90 plus. I just wont.

Second off, GPS should by now be accurate enough to create what is called a dynamic governor. If you are in the open and get up to run, by God lets open up that Governor and let's go. At least you will be safer in traffic.

Finally I leave you with this thought. Ive noticed in the last few months Gliders (Trucks modified or specifically rebuilt to bypass 1999 laws regarding computers are also have larger governors for better than 75 mph where we are.) passing us in our car at 70 to 75 or more. I don't have a problem with that because I understand the pressures of time and dispatch etc.

But Im not going to let the wide load/oversize/very #### heavy off the hook either. What was his escort vehicles doing? If any at all? Yes the speed limit is 75 or whatever, larger than what your governor has. Stay in your lane and let the sob go by hisself in whatever way he chooses.

Worse case scenario which I have run into a time or two with people who are intent on really being nasty and mean with profane words to match, I would take the vehicle onto a ramp (Provided it has a straight through to get back onto the highway) and end the problem by waiting a moment or two for Mr Nasty to roll on by. If Mr Nasty followed me onto the ramp then it becomes a concealed carry problem and the Law would be on the phone before too long.

But back in the old days if you had the horses you got by and were expected to be up front. In the current environment of Governors that appear to be getting stupid slower... it becomes a lethal problem to someone. If you are going to die, do it staying in your lane, not riding the shoulder like a weak submissive beta male or something. It's your #### lane. Own it.

I'm also at a loss as to why an oversize wasn't communicating on the radio. A simple word that he was wanting to pass and all this would not have even occurred. You try to help some people and they still screw up.

I could care less if they return the courtesy or not. I do and continue to do so. I've been cussed out, called names, threatened, etc for trying to be respectful and courteous driver, but it don't phase me. I was raised better than that. Apparently no one else was. Just shows me how much humanity has gone to ####.

There are a few. But, why allow someone to ride inches from my bumper when I can legally, and safely move over to let them go ahead.

The driver pulling the oversize load probably thinks he's special and you should be able to read his simple mind.
