What yall think

I’m not doing anything amazing or original and I’m not going to be a billionaire. What I am doing is making a living and being a productive member of society. You started this thread asking for advice and people were nice enough to give you advice but you don’t seem to want to hear it. You’re an adult who hasn’t had a steady job since 2011.
I’m going to agree that you’re not in the best state right now. And I think you do need help but I’m afraid the kind of help you need is something a bunch of truck drivers can’t give you.
I wish you the very best and hopefully you’ll get things sorted out in your life.

 

The only con is doing nothing. The sooner You get busy, the sooner you’ll have more focus, sitting around thinking about and doing whatever it is you have been for the last 8 yrs, obviously isn’t working out very well. There’s no such thing as an ideal situation. Waiting for the stars to line up, is a waste of time. Go to school if Diesel repair interests you. Or do something else your interested in. Main thing is find a focus on something outside of yourself. You’ll benefit in the process.

 

No one is saying it’s bad. If you want to be a mechanic and a driver at the same time then by all means do it.
I can’t speak for others but the way I see it is that if you’re a driver you make money by rolling down the road not sitting in the shop fixing the truck. Being able to fix basic things on the truck is always a plus but do you really need to go to diesel mechanic school for that?
But like I said, do both if that’s what you want to do.
I’m not an owner/operator so I guess I’m qualified to answer this.

 

Well I’d say it’s actually a good plan. Having given it some thought, based on my own experience.I considered mechanic school, when I was young. Auto and also aero, ended up Driving and enjoyed it. Auto repair was just getting computerized and not paying well either. However after being an O/O for 23 yrs, and learning and still learning, I wish I had the knowledge now to do an OH myself. All this time I should have been studying more. But too busy keeping up on everything else, like small repairs, paperwork, and ofcourse needing to turn the wheels to make money. Trucking takes a lot of your time. So learning now and keeping up on the constantly changing technology of Diesel engines, will be of help to you as an O/O. Maybe even be the difference between success and failure. Also will give you another option should You decide to get out of Driving. It’s a good idea, if it interests you. If so, Give it your all, be the best at it. After all you are a Marine.

 

Fine, I'll give you a negative.... Marines break ####, it's what we do. We dont fix, we break. Try working on the truck, you're just going to break it better. There, happy?

 

It will not do much except keep you from having a job for another 3 years, which may be the goal
Going to mechanic school is great for a mechanic, who basically keeps going to school for the rest of his career, if he tries to keep up. What you learn on will likely be obsolete by the time you buy your first truck.
