The old owner couldn't even afford CAT yellow engine paint. I think that's banana yellow on the engine!

He's wanting $9000. He'll replace both heated mirrors, put on mudflaps, get the AC working. First, we're going to take it to Cat for a dyno run. Engine condition is a big deal. I can fix most anything else.
$1000 down and $500 a month. -
1987 Ford LTL9000 heck of a good tractor but it had sixty things wrong with it the day I picked it up they were called payments. 2100.00 a month in 1987
Not too many $126,000.00 tractors in 1987 and a FORD LTL 9000 was certainly not 1 of them.

I think his asking price is too high.. tell him 5-6 grand at the most. He's had it parked for a long time and you're doing him a favor. You're taking a big risk when you buy an old truck! this engine could be due for a rebuild any time. How about those Injectors? transmission? differentials? drive shaft? It's a negotiation.. you want to sell him your price, he wants to sell his.. meet at the sweet spot you like. Whatever you do, never tell yourself that you "Need" that truck, the minute you do, you will lose position and pay higher. There are many options out there, much better options.
I love older trucks, especially my 1989 international cabover. had 200K on an in-frame when I bought it for $3700. you just have to run them smarter, not harder.. also many of their parts are made tougher than todays trucks. one of the bad things is MPG compared to newer trucks, at the same talk, compare the savings in purchase price.
Good luck, this could be a very profitable move, or a way to go broke. Make smart, precise, and confident decisions -
