The size of the carrier is not necessarily indicative of the amount of freight they move. The carrier I'm with now is 1/100th of the size of the carrier I trained with (Swift) yet I am running more miles than I did with Swift. The trip I'm on right now started in Scarborough Maine at my carrier's home terminal and ends in Cheyenne WY.

Smaller carriers, as a rule, are not in the training business...they are in the freight moving business and their income derives from the amount of freight they move, not from sources intertwined with training.

There are, however, some smaller (though still considered large) carriers that DO hire and train fresh CDL school grads. Watkins Shephard comes to mind but I don't know if they hire out of New York state.

If I were you, I would look really hard at non-megas that do train. I wish I could give you a list but I'm sure some of the other members here can help.

    Good luck!

CRETE has a much nicer one, it's top notch quality in a comb bound "book" with a clear cover page

I found a small company with 50 trucks and 150 trailers, they hired me right out of school

Don't mislead, but don't tell them too much.

Just say something like, "I'm very interested in your company. I would like to go forward and confirm that I meet your eligibility requirements."

Good luck. as suggested by comments earlier in this thread, do a search for each company name that you are considering for posted opinions. But remember, most posts are complaining. Not as many people post about how happy they are with an employer.
