He didn't hang out in my blind spot for long... When I started changing lanes, he began to hang out in the median. He wasn't going to write a ticket at first until I started telling him that he "The almighty badge" was truely in the wrong... I guess that pissed him off, cause I got the ticket.

I took it to court 4 times. But the home town judge sided with his brother in law.

Depends on the state. In LA for instance reckless in a criminal offense while careless is a traffic (Highway Regulatory) offense. In other words in LA a reckless conviction carries a criminal history with it which can have long term effects on job seekers as well as drivers attempting to exit the U.S. in a CMV.

Here in MS careless is operating a vehicle in a careless or imprudent manner, while reckless is driving in such a manner as to indicate either a willful or wanton disregard for the safety of people or property. Here in MS both are traffic offenses, not criminal so they both, in effect go away in a few years.

Be happy it was a MS Trooper and not a SO or city officer because they are bad about writing reckless tickets when careless was more appropriate.

    Best regards

With all due respect, there is no blind spot on your left.

    BTW, what town?

    Best regards

It has to do with intent, "careless" being- not paying attention like taking on a cell phone and swerving around.

Reckless means you "intended" to drive in a dangerous manner - like aggressive lane changes and 20+ excess speed.

Careless you get for stuff like zen said. Reckless you normally get tacked on after you wreak and nearly kill somebody and did it in malice normally. Its MUCH worse of a charge.
