Threads like this scare me. Going to school next month and then on the road. I don't want to be away from my family (2 young kids) for weeks on end.

Unless you own the truck or are local, its a thought you will have to get comfortable with.

59EX, you are making the wrong choice then. Kiddos are only young once. Savor it.

No kidding... Place I delivered this.morning, right in the Newark/Elizabeth/Union area had signs posted "This is a residential area, do not use horns or idle trucks"

Just where I love to take a truck.

I've never done OTR. Always driven day cab, but I worked 42 days straight with no break once

If I could get past the extra paperwork & chance of loosing vs gaining money I might be one.

Just too OCD about negative possibilities.

No kidding, Elizabeth/Newark is a special kind of suck.

Just ran around that area about 2 weeks back picking up class 3 hazmat at 3 different shippers snaked in between residential suburbs....never understood why they build housing backed up to chemical plants in the northeast.

Passed directly in front of 4 schools & sports fields that were in use on roads & turns never meant for sleeper 53's on way to/from pickups...umm safety?

Love the industrial complexes that group S&R's far away from the public with well lit wide roads, permitting parking up & down both sides, as well as NOT ALLOWING BUILDING PERMITS FOR RESIDENTIAL WITHIN A MILE RADIUS SO THE IDIOTS THAT BUY THEM WONT HAVE A CHANCE TO START COMPLAINING ABOUT TRUCK TRAFFIC/NOISE/REEFERS ECT; they make me feel nice & cozy.
