What's up with all the trucks idling?

We didn't know any better as that was state of the art for the time.

I guess what I miss most included things like never passing a truck on the shoulder without hollering at them to see if they needed help, BSing with guys all night long on the CB, knowing where every cop was (55 speed limit, it was a game to not get caught at the outrageous speed of 65 to 70), truckstops with plenty of parking, free showers, free thermos fill of coffee, sit down restaurants with a phone on every table, every kid you passed wanting a horn blast.......

There were plenty of things that sucked, but the beauty of aging is selective memory!

To be fair I have a 2020 Cascadia that has the optimized idle so it only runs to keep me comfortable and maintain the temperature I set........it only runs about 2 hours then shuts off....so it keeps the batteries juiced, the oil warm and keeps me warm or cool......no apu needed and it's not excessive idling.....

Nice to hear those stories, even if you leave out the bad!

Like pay phone lines, bingo cards, non-sliding trailer tandems? But we did have $.80 fuel and a buck a mile was high cotton!

He drives an old not so aerodynamic truck with a mechanical engine in it and wants to give others a hard time for wasting fuel.

For the record I don’t care what truck or engine choice someone makes, if it’s want you want then great.

Not I, hard on engine. No reason to shut off an engine just to fire her up 10 minutes later.

I do, because the loud noise is not good for the eardrums.

Do you not listen to the radio going down the road either? Cause that’s allot louder than my old cat at idle
