Just shear stupidity, laziness, disrespect, unprofessionalism, discouteousness, and a new generation of drivers whom act like a child who is brought up in a household where they are around bad habits. This leads to learned behavioral attitudes, and this leads into adulthood. The second reason possible is the lack of proficient training, and many drivers have personal issues such as felonies, or other issues that do not allow them to get any other job, except as a steering wheel holder. Thus, these jokes of truck driving schools and company training regiments are so basic due to the so called driver shortage, they throw these men/women into a two week program, here's the keys move our freight.

Parked at the J in Jamestown, NM (Old Giant) on a Sunday afternoon. Lot is maybe 25% full with plenty of pull through spaces not too far from the pumps. Watched 2 guys make 2 new spots by sidling up right along the curb along a bypass lane, as close as possible to the main building. Amazing and disturbing to realize the level of sheer laziness and rudeness that is almost rampant out here. And no, these weren't any mega trucks. These were a flatbed owner-op and the other a "California Central Valley company produce hauler" (you know, those with a tiger or lion or some weird symbol on the rear door)

That's what I like about the Pilot in Sturbridge, MA. They have 1 or 2 employees watching the trucks and running them off if they're not getting fuel.

Some of these older guys go inside to pay, even though they have a card and can pay at the pump.

The only way to deal with this BS is to have employees out at the fuel islands solely for the purpose of "correction and reeducation" of the lazy, thoughtless malcontents that have permeated this profession.

Just last week I swung into the J in Haw river, nc I think it was, after using the streakin beacon across the street. Grabbed some smokes and a coffee to go, took maybe 5 minutes if that, wasn't terribly busy. While I was inside I kept hearing them page for this driver who had parked not on the fuel island, but in front of it, at an angle blocking 2 of the lanes. As I was pulling out I saw a hook pulling up to it, so not sure he broke down or they were towing it, but betting on the latter as they were still paging him as I walked out.

If more took that stance maybe more would quit doing it. Nah.
