dont go there injun---i should have said --donut center--or at least have a bit more clarity for the gutter minded(like myself)
Injun Thanks this. -
In most places, your back fence can be 6'6" high, and side and front fences can be 4'6" high, generally measured from the property adjacent to yours. You can sometimes (and this varies widely) put between 6" and 24" of privacy screening (usually lattice) on top of that.
I'm not sure what you guys are lumber in the US, but the price up here is so crazy that I've decided to go with chain link for mine. A little less than half the price of pressure-treated. -
It's a bummer if they make y'all tear it all down due to a lack of permission from the powers that be.
Only difference is when there's a swimmin' pool on the property.
Then, a higher fence is required for safety reasons. However, should anyone attempting to climb the higher fence manage to fall while doin' so, they'd still, probably, be able to file suit for any injuries sustained, --- and collect from y'all's homeowner's insurance.
Crazy, ain't it?
So much for safety.
Only problem is, Canuck in da truck could still see through a higher chain-link fence, and it'll take too long for shrubs and/or trees to grow high enough to block the view. Can you suggest a way to modify the chain-link so that it can't be seen through?
I fear Canuck in da truck will be adversely affected if continually subjected to offensive sights from next door, which could be detrimental to the quality of posts submitted as a direct result.

Slide thin pieces of wood or plastic through the chain link. Unfortunately, chain link would not work for me. My dog can climb it in fairly short order. But you're not allowed to put up a reasonable privacy fence on your own property?? Glad I choose places in the backwoods, where you can have 20 dead cars in the yard if you want.

thanx for the suggestions--but you know what erie is like--house is over 100yrs old--and a tiny shared driveway--that i cant get thru with my tahoe---so no fence till back farther
i would love to have a place in the country with 20 dead cats---or cars--i only have the 56 in the back yard--and its a #### tight squeeze---
actually neighbours are pretty good--cant speak much english---more polish--but still pretty good people -
Where I am now, it's kind of 1/2 rural 1/2 suburban. My lot is 55x333. We've got about the first 100' fenced. Here I'm allowed the 6'6" with 2 feet of lattice on top if I want. The guy with the 5 acres down the road had to get us all to sign a petition to put up barbed wire though. He raises a couple steers every year for the meat, and the city gave him a hard time about it.
This city was actually several smaller cities until the 1970s though, and different parts still have different zoning. When you're building for other people it's enough to drive you scooters. -
razor wire sould be a nice option--but i think some where i read it was illegal to be installed at a house
-
I put up some razor wire around the garbage cans at the mint, three strands at the top of the chain link (they have valuable garbage). I wouldn't do it again for a million bucks. My hands still bleed spontaneously when I think about it.
Injun Thanks this. -
AJ introduced himself to razorwire yesterday. Cut the inside of his ear before I could pull him back from it. It was bured in high weeds.
